Note from Zoe
If you've missed a few editions of Compass Bearings, it's because I have been wrestling with the Cyber Gods. I have since made a tentative peace with the wayward beasties, have a new software platform in place, spun around three times and tossed the salt. Launch time. Keep your fingers and all other appendages crossed for luck!

Here are the links to the last few editions, just to make sure you are all caught up:
Compass Bearings Vol. 5.13 Feel the change blowing?
Compass Bearings Vol. 5.12 Is this your sartori?

It's been a slow and quiet month this winter down here in Australia, and this week's article is my reply to the rampant funkiness.

Zoë
p.s. Thanks to everyone who sent me birthday wishes! If you're really feeling loving, then you can drop me a note at the blog http://zoerouth.blogspot.com

The main article: Cut the funk, dude!

Phew! All this focus on personal development, manifesting, wealth creation, and self-improvement can be exhausting. Change requires effort, that’s for sure. July tends to be a bit more of a downer month for me than others. It's my birthday month, it's the middle of winter in Australia and I've been struggling in the cold and dark, unfriendly mornings. Aussie homes are not built for frosty conditions the way Canadian homes are. Give me central heating and double-glazed windows! All in all, it's been a time for reflection and hiding under layers of blankets. I've got one wrapped around my legs as I'm typing!

Occasionally I've just felt sick of it all: sick of trying to be happy, focussed, and positive when all I want is the sunshine and a day without wearing a beanie in the office. This kind of grumbling leads to a funk. A sour-faced, pouting, blue moodiness. Ugh.

To be honest, sometimes it is a bit of a relief just to wallow in the funkiness. Feeling sorry for myself is so indulgent, it can actually feel kind of good, in a warped kind of way.

After awhile, it wears thin.
I start to get annoyed with myself, irritated with my own company. Who likes to hang out with a spoilsport, whinging, grumpy pants? That’s right, only other grumblebums. Pretty soon it’s an all out sobbing pity party, with no pass the parcel or dancing anywhere.

So when I'd had it with the blues and was ready to feel good again, I launched in to mission Good Vibrations.

First of all, I gave myself a break. Why be so hard on myself? Moods are like everything else; it’s all just energy. Energy moves in waves, up and down, in and out, ebb and flow. If I go with the flow and don’t resist or get stuck in it, then I know it will pass. To help it along, I shake it up with my tried and tested vibe changers.

Here are my top 10 Good Vibration Blues Buster Miracle Workers:

1. Go outside. Breathing in fresh air, looking at a blue sky, and being in nature just feels good.

2. Exercise. Even a few minutes can feel good. I love sweating it out on the rower. If I’m feeling wimpy, I’ll just take it easy and pretty soon the endorphins take over. If I’m in a particularly stubborn funk and can’t bear going to the gym, I’ll do some stretching. Reconnecting with the ole bod allows me to thank her for being my partner in life on this planet.I experience everything through my body, so it's good to say a quiet, 'good on ya!' once in awhile.

3. Clean something. My husband loves to tease me about being the Enjo lady, but I tell you, there is something so satisfying about clean surfaces and the gleam of shiny chrome.

4. Pat something furry and cuddly, like a cat, dog, or guinea pig. Whose heart doesn’t melt when licked all over and covered in hair? If Ziggy, our neighbour’s cat, isn’t around, I’ll say hello to our pet worms in the compost bin. Ok, it’s not the same as a purr and a nuzzle, but at least there is no fur to deal with.

5. Music. Music is all energy vibrations, so it is no wonder it has such a profound effect on mood shifting. I love Norah Jones for relaxing, and ABBA for a boogie. At the gym I pump iron to all sorts of great 80s tunes. Even the Star Wars theme makes an appearance. Especially good on the leg press.

6. Hug someone. Personal contact is lovely. ‘Nuff said.

7. Watch a funny movie. Leslie Nielsen movies (Airplane, Police Academy) are so silly it hurts!

8. Read something inspiring and enjoyable. I love books. It is one serious addiction. Historical fiction is my thing. Phillippa Gregory is my favourite author in the genre. She’s written a mammoth trilogy called “Wideacre” that is a rollicking good read.

9. Smile at someone. Watch how their face totally changes when they smile back. Very, very cool.

10. Say a little thank you. I lead a really, really good life. I do what I love every day: write, learn, and connect with other like-minded people around the world. I help others live the best version of their life. I want for nothing. I have the best husband in the world, great friends, loving family, I’m healthy, I’ve survived cancer, and I’ve had some really cool adventures all around the globe. Yeah, life is good.

Bonus #11. Watch Star Wars. You don't have to explain everything. Some things are just for fun. In fact, we've got Attack of the Clones all lined up for an evening snuggling in front of the fire. May the Forvce be with you!

That’s it. I feel great! Now it’s time for you to cut the funk, dude!

Lots of love to you

Zoë
P.S. If this made you smile, then share the moment and forward it on.

Stuff that works:

Absolute Productivity
There's no way I could feel as good as I do or get as much done as I do without having implemented the personal management strategies in Absolute Productivity . I have a seamless organised system for all my personal and work affairs, an easy cleaning schedule that hardly takes any time at all, and I've blasted block after block in my emotional energy patterns so success just flows for me now.

I wrote it all down in Absolute Productivity to share with you all because well, I just don't have the time to keep doing workshops or coaching on the topic. I maintain an exclusive coaching clientele and unfortunately, there isn't room enough for everyone. Absolute Productivity gives people access to all my secret success strategies, without having to wait for a coaching slot to become available. So go for it! It's all there, waiting for you.

Have you been to the Organising Place?

Blog grooviness
You know what, I love writing. My blog gives me the easiest platform to get ideas, thoughts, and photos out to the world, to spark discussion, reflection, and a sense of community with like-minded folks. This week I've been writing about how act, think, and feel for peace. I would love it if you stopped by for a visit. Blog it up here: http://zoerouth.blogspot.com

Survey results
Thanks to everyone who responded to the survey. The most popular request for more information is still the "Mental Strategies for Success Category". That's good, because that's what I'm writing my next book on! I'm learning even more about beliefs and emotional energy patternsand how they affectresults. More importantly, how to change the beliefs so that desired results flow faster. Very cool stuff.

Admittedly, this can be a huge time sucker.  I have been Facebooking for a few weeks now and have been amazed at how easy it is to connect to people I have not seen for over 20 years. It's like being at a party where you can eavesdrop on all the conversations all at once. It's all about connection, and Facebook has helped me to feel connected to people from all aspects of my life over the decades, all in the one spot. Who needs weddings and funerals to see all those long-lost so and sos when you've got Facebook!
