Hello Dear Readers
My holiday in Byron Bay can only be described as “bliss”. The surf was fantastic and the new boogie board got a workout twice a day. The sun shone during the day and the rain fell at night. Sunshine, surf, delicious food, fun shopping, great massage, good company – what more could a girl want?
Major highlight: magical moments with dolphins. Our first surf had us bobbing up and down on a big swell when a small pod of dolphins drifted past. They were so close I could hear them spraying water from their blowholes. There is nothing like the vastness of the sea and its marvellous creatures in a spectacular corner of the planet to keep you riveted fully in the present moment. This is happiness.
The fabulous holiday highlighted how much of a different game I am playing these days. Life is a lot easier, fun, and free. Every day I wake in a state of grace. Gone are the struggle, worry, fear, and anxiety. It struck me that the change of game I have made is one you might be ready for too. This week’s article is all about changing your game. Trust me – it feels good. Really good.
Zoë p.s. Congratulations to Josie and Andy, Libby and Ed, and Sean and Emma on your recent respective pregnancies. Lucky kids to be born to such fabulous people.
p.p.s. If you enjoy Compass Bearings, the best compliment you can give me is to forward it to like-minded friends.
The main article: Time to change your game?
Each day In Byron Bay I felt completely saturated with wealth and abundance. I realised I was living a millionaire lifestyle in an ocean of abundance of every kind – health, wealth, and happiness. There was simply an absence of resistance and struggle. This is a novel sensation for me. I have always chosen the hard road, embraced challenge and hardship in the interest of character development. Life has always been hard in one way or another. For years I have played the Struggle Game.
The Struggle Game involves taking on plenty of challenges, juggling multiple responsibilities, dealing with crisis and looming deadlines, and just scraping by – in all areas. I even worked for an organisation, Outward Bound, whose motto is “To serve, to strive, and not to yield”. Its whole ethos and modus operandi is about struggle and overcoming for the purpose of character development. This suited me for years as the thrill of ‘overcoming’ and ‘not yielding’ fed my desire to build resilience and fortitude. The Struggle Game is addictive not for the hardship, but for the sense of achievement. It is triumph in the face of adversity that it so enthralling. This manifested in every aspect of my life: difficult relationships, constant financial hardship, poor health, running marathons, and challenging work circumstances.
After years of constant struggle however, the novelty wore off. The long hard effort outweighed the few moments of fleeting exhilaration before the next challenge reared its terrible head.
When I started coaching five years ago, it introduced me to a whole new game – one full of ease, grace, happiness, and creativity. I realised that I no longer wanted Struggle. I had learned the lessons. I had ‘not yielded’ over and over and felt that my resilience was well and truly tested.
At first I just wanted relief from the struggle. However the constant pre-occupation with struggle kept me struggling. So I worked out what the antithesis of struggle was: Freedom. Delicious, toe-curling Freedom. The word felt unusual and foreign to me. The world of Freedom was indeed a whole new country.
Once I decided that Freedom was the name of my new game, things fell in to place one after another. I shed the challenging relationships and found the man of my dreams. I immersed myself in financial education and transformed my money beliefs to shed debt and build assets. Eventually I left the workplace and am now running my own business – ultimate freedom.
Life is so much easier, so much more enjoyable. It feels good. Really good. The whole point of the Freedom Game is to feel good. I still have desires, still have ambitions, still participate actively in the greater Game of Life, but the whole experience is one of lightness and joy. A fair cry from struggle, no?
Sound like fun? Are you ready?
How to change your game Realise you are playing a game. All of us play games. That is why we are born – to experience the vast multitude of games available. Often the game you play first of all is one you learn from your parents, family, and immediate surroundings. It might be the game of poverty, tough luck, hard work, loneliness, worry. Or it might be the game of fun, creativity, adventure, art, risk, or prosperity.
A game is neither good nor bad. Each game we play offers something to learn, to grow from, and to expand our consciousness. For example, the game of poverty teaches us the value and true nature of wealth. Wealth is about freedom of emotion, health, and happiness. The contrast of material poverty highlights the joys of abundance and how we can manifest this ourselves when we focus on it.
You’ll know you are ready to change games when you feel a consistent sense of dissatisfaction, a desire for something different. It might feel like an itch or a yearning to burst through to a new level in your life or work. This sense of uneasiness guides you to seek out a new kind of game.
Know that you CAN play a different game. You are not stuck. You CAN transform your life. You need only decide that it is something you truly want. So when you have had enough of struggle, or worry, or fear, or dread or whatever game it is that you are playing, then you know you are on the edge of something fantastic. Get ready to explore a whole new world. When you seek it out, you will find it, and it will be yours.
All good wishes for you,
Zoë

Featured Linkswww.abraham-hicks.com Esther and Jerry Hiks have been providing Law of Attraction seminars for nearly twenty years. Their material is often the soruce informatin for many new LOA writers and teachers. Their style is unique, and the whole concept of 'chanelling' is intriguing. esther channels non-physical entities who refer to themselves as "Abraham". If you can get past the weirdness part of this, their message is one of love with specific instrucitons on how to create your life more deliberately. it is a good starting point for anyone new to the Law of Attraction. They are right up there on the sincerity stakes as well. Book Review: Abraham-Hicks's Ask and It is Given
This is a great little book with a simple approach to the Law of Attraction. It is full of very practical strategies on how to overcome resistance and how to focus on what you truly want instread of getting stuck in habitual negative thinking. They have also included a scale of emotions which serve as a guidance system for you, reflecting whether or not you are manifesting your true intentions or not. You can also use this this scale to help pull you out of negative emotions and back in to positive ones. Very helpful. The language is somewhat awkward and clunky in places, and the whole concept of 'channelling on-physical entities' is well, frankly, weird at best. However you cannot fault them for sincerity and positive intentions, and the techniques they profer are solid and practical. Worth the read. You can get it at Amazon.com for a good price.
